23 Summarize your thoughts

There was life before CL2.0 and there will be life after CL2.0. There is a whole new world out there now! I am going to check out Discovering Assistive Technology because I have students with disabilities as well as Classroom 2.0 for Teens, because contrary to what they think, teens do not know everything, not even when it comes to technology!

At first, I was not sure how I was going to find the time for Classroom 2.0, even though I had an interest and curiosity about the various topics. I am so thankful that I hung in there because I have grown exponentially personally and professionally from the experience.

I have an insatiable appetite to know more about technology and what is available. I have started using Google Docs and have signed up my students. The latest copy of their work is always available to them and me. They edit and I am able to provide feedback. I have changed my grading; the students revise until their paper deserves an A.  The students have become more comfortable with writing, but it is the rewriting and revising again and again that has increased their ability. This is made easy using Docs. I am beginning to love technology!

I have also created a Career WebQuest which has worked out well for my ESE English IV class. I am  better able to differentiate my instruction to address the varied skill level among the students. With a web based lesson, I can assist them individually. You can develop your own WebQuest with the many templates offered by Google. Everything is free!

I will continue to listen to the webinars and look forward to an advanced Classroom 2.0.

22 eBooks and audio books

I had a thought after accessing the World EBook Fair  site and the Project Gutenberg site; it is a beautiful world and time we live in today. Books for free!

I discovered that Amazon offers a 30 day free trial for audio books, which has a much more extensive list than Librivox, which provides audio books produced by volunteers.

I am a huge fan of audio books because you would not necessarily sit down and read a book you would listen to; it  is a more casual experience and you can do it more often than sitting down with a book.

My latest favorite is Earth by Jon Stewart....hilarious! It is "this is what we were like" documentary left for the aliens when they visit Earth and we are no long around.

21 Podcasts: iPod not required

Two great aspects of the podcast is that now I do not need an iPod to listen to the podcasts and I will automatically be notified when a new cast becomes available. I added two feeds in my Google reader account.

I discovered LD Podcast which is produced and maintained by parents for parents with learning disabilities. The topics range from maximizing success in the classroom to the latest changes in IDEA laws. I also added engage: transforming teaching and learning through technology, a site from the University of Wisconsin. The site provides step by step guides as well as award winning examples.

My goal is to spend time gaining a further understanding about incorporating the use of podcasts in my lesson plans, for teaching and learning.

I get lost in the seemingly endless resources; I could listen for hours about topics that interest me. I wonder what impact this may have on students' reading ability in the future. Will listening and viewing replace reading?

7 Blog about technology

I have heard about Google Docs and I want to check it out. It seems that need is the mother of all inventions.

When students start a writing assignment at school and want to work at home, they either have to email the document to themselves or save it on a thumb drive. They have to open their email, save the document, work on the document, save it, email it to themselves, open it at school, save it again and print. With Google Docs, they always have the latest version which is assessable from any computer.

2 Life Long Learning

I would venture to say that most people participating in Classroom 2.0 are probably lifelong learners. The habit that is the easiest for me is playing. Actually, playing is learning. Begin with the end in mind is a concept I have learned overtime.

1 About

Sounds good! I am particularly interested in the interactive aspect of the internet and the use of various application.

20 YouTube and video

I love watching videos on YouTube! They are short and usually have a huge message or are of something very beautiful or incredibly unusual. The extraordinary can be seen all day on this site! I am continually amazed at what see.

My sister sent me the one of a dog rescuing another dog by dragging him off the highway while cars are whizzing by and one of my students sent the inspiring one of the man with no arms or legs.

My favorite is our daughter Angela’s wedding, which was posted in a first, second  and third phase because of the length. You can only post up to 10 minutes.

19 Library Thing

Visit my LibraryThing catalog. Have you read any of these books? I love books, reading, book talks, giving books away, sharing books and saving books for rereads and references. The best part of this discovery exercise was finding the site BookMooch. A great site for trading books!

I was surprised that Steven Hawking's book, a Brief History of Time had only one member, while Jonathan Mooney's book, Learning Between the Lines, had 98 (he spoke at Lyman several years ago about thriving at n Ivey League college with learning disabilities).

18 Online productivity tools

With either Zoho Writer or Google Docs you can always have the latesest version of your document at your finger tips. This would be great! When my students are working on a paper and do not finish at school, they email it to themselves, complete it at home and them email it to to themselves again so they can have the latest version. Being able to share them and collaberate with them in real time is amazing! Zoho also save the history of the document, but you are always working on the latest version. I shared a document in Google Docs and it was interesting to see the edits happen in real time.

17 CL2.0 Wiki - curriculum connections

I would like to see a technology sharing wiki site for the faculty at my school. Teachers could share how they are using technology in their classrooms. Others would be more apt to incorporate the example in their own classroom because they would have the originating teacher there to answer questions and provide assistance. This would increase the number of teachers who use technology in their classroom. This is something that is long overdue. Incorporating technology is just difficult to do on your own when you are use to traditional curriculum planning and instructional delivery. Wikispaces provides a free place for educators to create a wiki.

16 Wikis

I first heard about Wikipedia when one of my instructors informed the class that we were not able to use the site as a cited source for our research because anyone could add or edit the information contained in the site and therefore the information therein was not reliable. One example I read about was when Stephen Colbert intentionally changed the status on the African elephant from "endangered" to "over populated". Do to his popularity, people voted that his input was 100% correct; of course the people at Wikipedia corrected it after a day.

I have followed this same line of thinking in my classroom, but suggest that my students access the site to find other more reliable link for references. Wikis are an incredible arena for sharing with others of like interests. My favorite site for teachers who want to incorporate a wiki in their classroom is For Teaching Tips: Wikis in the Classroom. The site offers 15 links and resources related to using wikis in the classroom.

15 Copyright, Creative Commons, What's Coming

I am not sure what is meant by the first discovery exercise or the purpose. I am going to make an assumption here in order to proceed. The referred to the sidebar is the 23 “things”. The original program was posted in 2007-2008 as made evident by rolling the mouse over each of the 23 “things”. Within each of the 23 “things” there are references to items and sites from 2010. In this “thing” for example, there is a reference to the 2010 Horizon Report. This indicates that the program has been modified from it's original.
I gained an understanding about sharing creative works and limited copy right laws by viewing “Wanna Work Together?” in Creative Commons. My interests are with Creative Commons in Education as I venture out into cyberspace to scavenge material and see that it’s pretty much a free for all. I am creating a CareerWebQuest for my English IV students and it would not be possible without the work of other educators. I will use the Plagiarism Prevention Zone in the Piracy link to give my students a full understanding of the concept as they begin to write their research papers.
I totally got lost in the wealth of information provided in the Horizon Reports. The 2004 report featured Learning Objects, which were predicted to be in wide use in two to five years. These are digital modules or lessons that can be reused to support learning.  I have never heard of Learning Objects, but I think the concept has its origins from digital frameworks such as WebQuests which can into being in 1995. The 2010 report featured multidisciplinary aspects of technology and the need for collaboration tools, rather than reusable sharing tool in the 2004 report. I predict that my school will continue to encourage teachers to incorporate technology in their classrooms to provide a learning environment which would increase student ownership of the learning process and that would provide learning activities that are social, active, and engaging.

14 Technorati, Tags, SEO

A Technorati search of “Classroom Learning 2.0” records ““Classroom Learning 2.0”” in the post frame and provide no results. A search of Classroom Learning 2.0 records “Classroom Learning 2.0” and there were no results. What the …!

A Google search of “Classroom Learning 2.0” provides 3,512 results. Google also provides the opportunity to obtain further/future information and posts:

Stay up to date on these results:

A Google search without the quotes provides 343,548 results, many of which were unrelated. Using tagging will sometimes yield the information sought and sometimes not. I am not sure what happened with Technorati, but the Google search using the quotes provided the needed hits.

13 Tagging and Deli.cio.us

Tagging and Delicious introduced me to a way of following the path of individuals that share my same interests. This saves time and enables me to access the best sites that I may not otherwise have found through a traditional browser search.

I have also been in a situation where I have marked a site in my favorites on my home PC for lesson planning purposes and wanted to access the site on my work computer. With Delicious, I can access my favorite sites from any computer.

12 Fun 'n' Games

So rolls are not just the things that extend from your stomach! Rolls allow you to create your own search tool for just the websites you want. You would always have your catagorized favorite sites at your fingertips. You could use the collected websites for a webquest. My Career Research roll contains sites related to writing a career research paper. All the sites are listed related to the topic. I could open the My Career Research Rollyo, copy the websites and paste the right into the webquest.

11 Web 2.0 Award Winners

I discovered that webware refers to tools on the web: listen to music, ecommerce, communication, data storage, mapping, pictures and videos, writing and research, social networking and top picks. Some of these tools could just be used of your hard drive.

I chose Google Calendar to explore. Why not get rid of your datebook or desk calendar and keep track of important dates by accessing the web-based calendar. I think in the near future, import from facebook with your friends and families birthdays will automatically populate in your webware calendar. I guess there are pros and cons to each of the methods.

Students could use this tool instead of their planner to keep track of assignments.

How did we ever live without webware? What will be next?
